Expert Treatment for All Ages
Treatment for Kids
Parents often wonder when their child should start orthodontic treatment and it’s a common misconception that only pre-teens and teenagers should see the orthodontist. Orthodontic treatment for kids can actually start as early as 7 years old, according to the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO).
- Makes more room for crowded teeth without surgery
- Prevents the need for tooth extraction
- Improves facial symmetry by influencing jaw growth
- Protects protruding front teeth from trauma
- Reduces the overall amount of time a child will spend in braces
- After your initial screening, Dr. Wilson will monitor your child’s dental development until the perfect time to start treatment.
- We’ll bring your child in for an evaluation every 6-12 months – and all of the observation appointments are complimentary.
- Even if you don’t see any changes since your last visit, it’s important to attend these appointments every 6-12 months.
- Regular screenings are the only way to ensure everything is developing normally.
- To track the eruption of permanent teeth, we’ll also take periodic panoramic X-rays of your child – which, also, are complimentary. We will forward this progress x-ray to your family dentist with a progress report to keep their files up-to-date.
- In addition to monitoring dental development, Dr. Wilson will track jaw growth and bite development. If there’s a problem with these processes, we may recommend early orthodontic treatment.
- Dr. Wilson will continue monitoring your child’s development until the time is right for treatment. Then, he’ll create a treatment plan that helps your child achieve a healthy, beautiful smile that lasts a lifetime!
Nowadays there are several kinds of braces options for teens including traditional metal, clear options, gold and even rose gold braces … the good news is that at Post Falls Orthodontics, we offer them all! Technology has drastically improved over the years. At Post Falls Orthodontics, we utilize all this technology to provide our patients with their new, beautiful smile.
- Traditional Metal Braces: Metal braces are used for their durable and practical treatment process. Today’s braces are smaller and more comfortable than ever before.
- Gold and Rose Gold Braces: Gold and rose gold braces work the same as traditional metal braces … but they look different and fun! Gold and rose gold braces are designed to straighten your teeth just as effectively and efficiently as metal … just with a flair of fun!
- Improved Facial Appearance & Oral Health – As your teen progresses through orthodontic treatment, you’ll notice positive changes to their appearance and smile. Also, straighter teeth and a healthier smile are much easier to maintain, making trips to the dentist a breeze.
- Positive Social Experience – Most of your teen’s classmates and friends will also have braces, making it that much easier to get your child to come to every appointment. They’ll be excited to wear braces with their friends, and go through the experience with their peers!
- Saves Time & Money – The longer you wait to solve orthodontic issues, the worse they can become. Choosing to align treatment with your child’s natural growth and development will save you time, money, and minimize overall treatment time.
- You get to eat what you want
- It’s easier to clean your teeth
- Best of all, it’s virtually invisible!

Invisalign and clear aligners have several benefits. First, they are nearly invisible. This allows you to maintain your normal appearance while undergoing orthodontic treatment. Clear aligners are also removable, letting you straighten your smile without changing your lifestyle. And last but not least, clear aligners are more affordable than ever. At Post Falls Orthodontics, you can save significantly on Invisalign.
Metal and Clear Braces
Metal and clear braces are equally effective. Each case is unique, so treatment methods and appliances can vary depending on your specific needs but here is some general guidance for braces.
- Basic Cases: 12-18 months
- Moderate Movement: 18-24 months
- Complex Cases: 24-30 months
Style: Braces these days can be as inconspicuous as you want. Clear braces are nearly invisible, or you can show your style and accessorize with a wide variety of color bands!
